How local-first storage works

Your places never touch a server. The only way data leaves the device is a file you export.

The practical consequences: places survive reloads and offline use, but they belong to this browser on this device — clear the browser's site data and they are gone. Export a GPX/KML backup now and then (two taps below), and re-import it into any mapping app, forever. No account to lose, no cloud to breach.

Made for the outdoors — and anywhere without signal

This page is one of the site's offline-capable tools: once you have opened it, saving, viewing, editing and exporting your places all work with no connection at all — only the background map tiles need signal, and your pins and notes don't. That makes it a natural fit for a campsite notebook: save the pitch, add a note (“water 50 m north, firewood by the gate”), and the note travels inside your GPX/KML export to Garmin, Gaia, Organic Maps or any spreadsheet. Frequently asked questions

Where are my saved places stored?

In this browser's local storage on this device — never on our servers. That's why they survive offline but don't sync between devices; use the GPX/KML export to move or back them up.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Saved places are deleted with it. Export a backup first — the GPX/KML/GeoJSON/CSV files re-import into most map apps, and CSV keeps your notes readable anywhere.

Can I add a note to a saved spot?

Yes — every place takes a note up to 200 characters (gate codes, water sources, parking level). Notes are stored only on your device and are included when you export as GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV.

Does it work offline, for example at a campsite?

Yes. Once the page has been opened it is cached for offline use: saving, editing and exporting places all work without signal. Only the background map tiles need a connection — your pins, notes and coordinates don't.
