What Country Am I In?
Tap the button below and, with your permission, your browser reads your position from GPS or Wi-Fi. This page converts it into a full address — the country you are standing in, the region and city inside it, and your exact coordinates on the map. Crossing a border on a train or flight layover? This answers it in one tap, even when your phone's clock and SIM are still arguing about it.
How your country is determined
Your device produces a coordinate pair; matching it against national boundaries in open map data is reverse geocoding. With the location permission granted the match is essentially exact — national borders are mapped far more precisely than the few-meter accuracy of GPS. If you decline, the page falls back to your IP address, which usually names the right country but can miss near borders or on satellite and roaming connections, where your traffic may exit to the internet in a neighbouring country.
On a VPN, the answer splits in two
With a VPN on, there are two honest answers: the country your body is in (what GPS reports — this page with permission granted) and the country your traffic appears to come from (what websites see — your VPN exit server). If those should differ and don't, or you're not sure the tunnel is on, run the VPN checker. Streaming services, banks and ticket sites react to the IP country, not the GPS one — which is why a site can insist you're somewhere your feet have never been.
Borders, enclaves and the fun edge cases
Most of the time the answer is one word. The exceptions are genuinely interesting: enclaves like Büsingen (Germany, surrounded by Switzerland) or Baarle, where the Belgian–Dutch border runs through shops and living rooms; disputed territories, where map data follows de-facto administration; and international waters or airspace, where there is no country to name and this page shows the nearest coastal state's waters instead. GPS itself doesn't care — it hands over coordinates and lets cartography argue.
